Are you having problems with your laptop battery not charging? Have you ever thought that it could be a device driver issue? Well, it very well could be.

There are some default battery device drivers that are bundled in Windows 7. These drivers try to control the battery charging properly, but for some laptops, these drivers may not function well. In such cases, users face problems like the laptop battery not charging even when the battery is low and the power adaptor is properly plugged into the laptop. In such cases, it’s better to download compatible battery drivers and install them instead of the Windows default drivers.

To uninstall the default drivers, navigate to your Device Manager in Windows. In the Device Manager, locate Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, right click on it and choose Uninstall. After you do this, restart the laptop and the battery charging should start to function normally again.

A security box will appear asking if the livemail.co.uk domain can provide you with the settings for your mailbox. Click Allow.

Step 3

You will be prompted to re-enter the password for your new mailbox. Once done click OK.

Tick the Remember my credentials box to avoid being asked for your password in the future.

Outlook will now set up your new Professional mailbox on your computer. This may take a couple of minutes to complete.

Once complete, click Finish to close the wizard and start using your new mailbox.

The Autodiscover wizard has not worked

If the Autodiscover wizard doesn’t work, this is an indication that Autodiscover is not setup within your DNS records. This record is created by default if you are using Fasthosts Nameservers, but can be added manually if your domain’s DNS records are being administered elsewhere.

Creating a new A record

Simply contact your domain administrator and request the following addition to your domains DNS A record.

If your Exchange server name is CAS.EMAIL.LOCAL enter:

Host Name

Points to

autodiscover.<domainname>

213.171.216.54

If your Exchange server name is CAS.EMAIL2.LOCAL enter:

Host Name

Points to

autodiscover.<domainname>

213.171.216.58

For example if your domain name is ralphsdomainname.com your domain provider can create an A record for autodiscover.ralphsdomainname.com to point to 213.171.216.54.

Once the A record has been added, you will be able to complete the steps in the previous chapter and Outlook will automatically set up your Professional mailbox for you.
If you do not have control over your DNS records, or do not want to add an additional A record to your domain name, you can still set up Outlook manually. The following chapter will show you how.

Setting up Outlook Manually

Before you set up your Professional mailbox manually, you will need to make a note of the following details:

Step 14

Enter your full email address in the username text box, then your password, when prompted.

Step 15

Setting up your Standard, Advanced, Starter or StarterPlus mailbox in Outlook 2007 should take just a few minutes.

You can connect to your mailbox using either the POP3 or IMAP protocols. As a rule of thumb it is better to use POP3 if only one computer accesses your mailbox, while it is better to use IMAP if you have a number of computers that will access your mailbox.

Step 1

Open Outlook 2007. Click Tools in the top menu and then click Account Settings.

Step 2

Select the E-mail tab and click New.

Step 6

There is a lot of information to fill in on this next screen, let’s look at each section bit by bit.

User Information

Your name: This is what most email users will see in their inboxes instead of your email address. Enter your name

E-mail Address: Enter your full email address. This is made up of the mailbox name you chose, an @ symbol and your domain name. you@yourdomain.com for example.

Server Information

Account type: Depending on your preferred type of connection, select POP or IMAP from the drop down menu.

Incoming mail server: Enter mail.yourdomain.com (replacing yourdomain.com with your domain name)

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Enter the SMTP server your ISP supplied you with in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server text box.

If you are setting up an Advanced or StarterPlus mailbox you should enter smtp.yourdomain.com (replacingyourdomain.com with your own domain name) into the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) text box. If you’re using external nameservers you can use smtp.livemail.co.uk instead.

Remember password: Check this box.

Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave unchecked.

Once completed, the screen should look similar to the following:

Once you have entered all the information required, click More Settings.

Step 7

If your ISP’s SMTP server requires username and password authentication, or you are using Fasthosts’ roaming SMTP servers to send mail from this mailbox, then click the Outgoing Server tab and make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is selected.

If you are using your ISP’s SMTP servers, then select Log on using and enter the username and password they provided you with.

If you are using Fasthosts’ roaming SMTP server then make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.

Step 8

If you are using Fasthosts’ SMTP server details then click the Advanced tab and change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number from 25 to 587. Incoming Server setting should be left at default (110 for POP connections and 143 for IMAP)

Step 9

Click OK, then Next and Finish to close the wizard. Outlook 2007 is now configured to send and receive email through your mailbox.

Outlook 2010 does not save Professional mailbox password

Why does Microsoft Outlook 2010 keep asking me to enter my Professional mailbox password?

There is an issue with Microsoft Outlook 2010 when connecting to a Professional mailbox, where it prompts for the password each time the software is opened, regardless of whether the Remember my password option is selected.

This issue has been resolved in Service Pack 1, which can be downloaded and installed from Microsoft’s website.

Checking if you have Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed

You can find out if you already have Outlook 2010 SP1 installed from the Help menu.

Step 1

Click the File tab, and select Help from the menu.

Step 2

On the right of the window click Additional Version and Copyright Information.

If you have SP1 installed it will state this in the first line of the window.

If the version information does not state that you have Service Pack 1 installed, note whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit Outlook. You will need to install the correct Service Pack for your version.

Installing Service Pack 1

If Service pack 1 is not installed, you can download and install it from Microsoft’s website.

Step 1

In your web browser visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460049.

Step 2

If you have Outlook 2010 32-bit select Click on Download the Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 32-bit package now.

If you have Outlook 2010 64-bit select Click on Download the Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 64-bit package now.

Step 3

Select your preferred language and click Download. Save the file to your computer and run it when it is downloaded.

The file is over 300MB in size, and may take some time to download depending on your internet connection speed.

Step 4

You must accept the terms of the Microsoft Software Licence before you can proceed. Select Click here to accept the Microsoft Software Licence Terms and click Continue.

Step 5

The Serice Pack will be extracted and installed. This may take several minutes and you will be asked if you want to reboot your computer once installation is complete. Select Yes.

Further assistance

If Service Pack 1 is installed and Outlook 2010 still does not save the password, Microsoft’s troubleshooting article athttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=290684 will provide further help.

Thunderbird setup with Standard, Advanced, Starter and StarterPlus mailboxes

How do I set up my mailbox in Thunderbird?

Setting up your Standard, Advanced, Starter or StarterPlus mailbox in Thunderbird should take just a few minutes.

You can connect to your mailbox using either the POP3 or IMAP protocols. As a rule of thumb it is better to use POP3 if only one computer accesses your mailbox, while it is better to use IMAP if you have a number of computers that will access your mailbox.

This article was written for Mozilla Thunderbird 10. Please be aware that the process may vary slightly for different versions of Thunderbird.

Before you begin

Before you set your mailbox up you need to know if it is a Standard, Advanced, Starter or StarterPlus mailbox, and you need to make a note of your mailbox connection details.

If you are connecting to a Standard or Starter mailbox you will need your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) outgoing mail server (SMTP) details. If you are unsure as to what these are you can either contact your ISP to request these details, or upgrade your email address to an StarterPlus mailbox.

If you are connecting to an Advanced, StarterPlus mailbox, or your broadband or dial up connection is supplied by Fasthosts, then you can use our roaming SMTP server settings to send your mail.

Step 1

Open Thunderbird.

You may be asked if you want to import settings from other email software, such as Outlook Express. This guide shows you how to set up a new mailbox from scratch.

Step 2

The Account Wizard will open, if you don’t have any other mailboxes set up in Thunderbird.

If the wizard does not open automatically, click Account Settings in the Tools menu.

Step 3

Click the Account Actions button and select Add Mail Account from the menu.

Step 4

Enter your name in the Your Name text-box. This is what most people will see when you send them an email. Enter your email address in the Email Address text box and the password you chose when you added the mailbox in the Passwordfield. Click Continue.

Step 5

Thunderbird will search for your mailbox connection details, which may take a few moments.

Depending on your preferred connection, check POP or IMAP as the incoming server type, and click the Manual Configbutton.

Step 6

In the Incoming details row make sure the following details are listed.

Server hostname: mail.yourdomainname.com, where yourdomainname.com is your own domain name. For example mail.ralphsdomainname.com.

Port: If you selected IMAP as your connection type, the Port should be 143. If you selected POP3 it should be110. Thunderbird will set this automatically so you shouldn’t need to change it.

SSL: This should be set to None.

Authentication: This should be set to Normal password.

Step 7

In the Outgoing details row enter the details of the outgoing mail server provided by your ISP.

If you are setting up an Advanced or StarterPlus mailbox you should enter smtp.yourdomain.com (replacingyourdomain.com with your own domain name) into the Server hostname text box. If you’re using external nameservers you can use smtp.livemail.co.uk instead. SSL should be set to None, and Authentication should be set to Normal password.

Step 8

Enter your full email address in the Username text-box and click Create Account.

If you have changed the Incoming mail server type from IMAP to POP3 or vice versa you will need to click Re-testbefore the Create Account button becomes available.

Step 9

Thunderbird will display a warning. Select I understand the risks and click Create Account.

Step 10

Confirm the details you have entered. Click Finish and then click OK to close the Account Settings window.

Thunderbird is now set up to send and receive emails from your mailbox.
